NJ Citizen Action, NJ Health Care for America Now and the NJ Main Street Alliance to Rally Friday, January 15, 2010 at Congressman John Adler's Marlton Office to Demand He Vote for National Health Care Reform and Finish Reform Right
Coalition to Deliver New Report, "Taxing Middle Class Benefits: The Wrong Way to Finance Reform," Demonstrating Why an Excise Tax Is Wrong Way to Finance Reform
Camden, NJ — On Friday, January 15, 2010 at Noon at Congressman John Adler's Marlton District Office, 28 North Maple Avenue, Marlton, NJ 08053, New Jersey Citizen Action, the NJ Health Care for America Now (HCAN) Coalition and the NJ Main Street Alliance will rally at Congressman John Adler's Marlton district office to demand that he support strong national health care reform. Adler was the only Democrat from New Jersey to vote against the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3692), which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives on November 7, 2009.
Coalition Members will also publicly release and deliver a new study, Taxing Middle Class Benefits: The Wrong Way to Finance Reform, detailing the negative impact on New Jerseyans of a new excise tax proposal the Senate is supporting as a mechanism to help pay for health care reform.
"The proposed excise tax will mean higher costs and fewer benefits for thousands of New Jersey residents and should be rejected by Congress," stated Leo Torrey, NJCA South Jersey Organizer.
Friday's event is one of dozens being held around the country calling on Congress to finish health reform right and reject an excise tax on middle class health benefits. In addition to Friday's action at Adler's district office, NJ Coalition members from across New Jersey will be participating in a call-in day to Adler, urging him to reverse his "No" position on health reform, vote "Yes" for good reform and work to fix our broken health care system.
