NJ Citizen Action's statement on A4045 being pulled from consideration from the Assembly Appropriations Committee

Trenton, NJ, March 14, 2024—New Jersey Citizen Action Executive Director Dena Mottola Jaborska issued the following statement today following A4045 being pulled from consideration from the New Jersey State Assembly Appropriations Committee:

“We, and the partners and allies we have been working with, applaud Speaker Coughlin for pulling this fast-tracked OPRA bill, which if passed as written would have been another blow to our democracy at a time when our democracy is under attack, and the ethics of some of our own elected leaders are under scrutiny because of serious allegations.

"No bill reforming OPRA should be driven by those the law holds accountable. We look forward to a measured approach to reform which incorporates advice and amendments from advocates, policy experts, the media, and the general public. We urge legislators to engage with us on genuine OPRA reform that does not undermine our sunshine law.”
