Don’t let them put profits over patients

Last Thursday the New Jersey Senate failed health care consumers.

Just two days after a report that Bayonne Medical Center charged a New Jersey man $17,000 to stitch a 2-inch cut, the Out-of-Network Consumer Protection Act had to be pulled by the bill’s sponsor when it became clear that key Democrats on the Senate Commerce Committee were going to join with Republicans to oppose the bill. The Committee played into the hands of special interests in the health care industry at the expense of ordinary New …

N.J. lawmakers take action on surprise out-of-network medical costs

Maura Collinsgru of NJ Citizen Action praised the bill for looking out for consumers who are “dealing with the stress of being ill.”

“It should be enough for consumers to pick their provider and in-network facility. If they have to drill down 10 layers” to find out the out-of-network information “they are not going to be able to do it. Let’s give them a break.”

Tell Your Legislators: Don’t Make a Bad Gas Tax Deal

Tell Your Legislators: Don’t Make a Bad Gas Tax Deal

There’s a truly terrible idea gaining steam in Trenton. Our policy makers are considering tying a gas tax increase to a repeal or reduction in the state’s inheritance and estate tax. And they’d blow a $800 million hole in the budget while they’re at it, inevitably leading to more devastating cuts to schools and services. This makes absolutely no sense.

Here’s your chance to stop this deal before it even happens. Email your legislators in Trenton and tell them not to make a bad TTF deal …

Sign the Petition: Stop using our tax dollars to fund your security detail!

Governor Chris Christie has already spent a fortune of New Jersey tax dollars, more than $1.3 million, for security as he travels the nation for his presidential bid. In fact, he plans to spend our money at an even faster pace in coming months as he ramps up his pursuit of the Republican nomination for President.

New legislation (S2949) that would put a stop to this is moving through the Legislature and New Jersey Citizen Action is strongly supporting it. But Chris Christie has dismissed the …

Divest the NJ Pension Fund from Payday Lending!

The New Jersey Pension Fund, and the taxpayers and public workers of New Jersey who contribute to the Pension Fund, are the indirect owners of a business so heinous that its primary business activity is actually illegal here in New Jersey.  New Jersey Pension Fund dollars were used by a private equity firm to buy the country’s second largest payday lender, ACE Cash Express. Payday lenders prey on desperate borrowers living paycheck to paycheck, keeping them trapped in a devastating debt cycle payday after payday. It is …
