Media Release: Feds Announce 2 Day Extension For Consumers Seeking Health Coverage Effective January 1

Highland Park, NJ – NJ for Health Care coalition partners working to educate New Jersey consumers on health options available to them under the Affordable Care Act were pleased with the announcement that consumers will have two additional days to enroll in order to be covered on the first day of the New Year.

HHS announced the deadline to sign up for January 1 coverage has been extended to 11:59pm PST December 17 due to unprecedented traffic on, Healthcare.gov.  This extension is specific to states that are Federally-Facilitated Marketplaces using HealthCare.gov.  However, a number of state based exchange states including New York, Minnesota, and California also announced similar extensions.

Maura Collinsgru, Health Care Program Director, stated, “We applaud the decision to extend the deadline giving consumers a few more days to get coverage beginning on January 1.  The crush of consumers logging onto HealthCare.gov in these last few days is a testament to the high level of interest and need consumers have for enrolling in affordable health care options.”

New Jersey Citizen Action maintains a website dedicated to assisting New Jersey consumers seeking enrollment information and assistance, CoverNJ.org.  Information is available in both English and Spanish.
