Newark – New Jersey Citizen Action’s (NJCA) Political Action Committee today announced its endorsements for the 2022 Congressional elections. The state’s largest grassroots advocacy group endorsed candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to defending American institutions against anti-democracy forces while also championing the interests of low- and moderate- income families, people of color, immigrants, and our nation’s most vulnerable individuals.
The endorsed candidates supported the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, which will lower prescription drug prices and healthcare costs for millions, make unprecedented investments in fighting climate change, and ensure that America’s ultra-wealthy and corporations finally pay what they owe in taxes. The candidates have also championed or supported legislative solutions on issues that include student debt relief, tax fairness and wealth disparity, the growing affordable housing crisis, and consumer protection from predatory lenders.
“Lawmakers who supported the Inflation Reduction Act and similar legislation have helped beat back special and corporate interests while delivering on promises to do what is best for the American people,” said NJCA Executive Director Dena Mottola Jaborska. “This is especially critical at a time when anti-democracy forces have set back decades of progress on women’s rights through the overturning of Roe v. Wade, attacked immigrants and people of color, and launched a ceaseless assault on the very foundations of our American democracy. Elections have consequences, and our democracy only works if we elect lawmakers who will continue the fight for justice and equality for all.”
“The Inflation Reduction Act was a massive victory for families across the country,” said Dr. Patricia Campos, NJCA PAC Chair, and President of Latina Civic Action. “But there is so much more work to be done, specifically around policies that protect women and immigrant workers’ rights, equity and racial justice for people of color, and economic opportunity for working families. We need to pass a national paid family leave law, stronger protections for caregivers, affordable child care, and earned sick days for all. We urge voters who are caregivers, and voters who prioritize the needs of caregivers, to turn out to the polls in November to vote for these legislative champions.”
NJCA endorses the following candidates:
CD1: Congressman Donald Norcross
CD2: Democratic candidate Tim Alexander
CD3: Congressman Andy Kim
CD6: Congressman Frank Pallone
CD7: Congressman Tom Malinowski
CD8: Democratic candidate Robert Menendez Jr.
CD9: Congressman Bill Pascrell
CD10: Congressman Donald Payne
CD11: Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill
CD12: Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman
Endorsed candidates will be supported with outreach to media, partner organizations, allies, affiliates, and 14,000 members throughout New Jersey, as well as various levels of direct voter contact by phone, text and door-knocking.
