EAST BRUNSWICK — The last Republican to run for president is coming to New Jersey to attend a fundraiser hosted by a Republican who is thinking about running for the White House.

Mitt Romney will join Gov. Chris Christie on Wednesday in East Brunswick as Christie celebrates his 52nd birthday to raise money for the state Republican Party.

Christie supported Romney in 2012. Romney has insisted he's not pursuing the White House in 2016.

The group New Jersey Citizen Action plans to protest outside over Christie's use of taxpayer dollars to defend himself against an investigation into the seemingly politically motivated lane closures at the George Washington Bridge that occurred a year ago Monday.

Christie will be in Illinois earlier in the day campaigning for gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner.

Christie's birthday was Saturday.
