On Tuesday, June 21, Assemblyman Tim Eustace will join New Jersey Citizen Action and a number of their partner organizations to protest outside Jersey Central Power and Light's (JCP&L's) offices located at 331 Newman Springs Road, #325 in Red Bank, NJ

Eustace is leading the charge against Congressman Scott Garrett's hateful, anti-LGBT words and actions. Garrett, the only New Jersey Republican Congressman aligned with the Party's crazy right-wing fringe, has refused to contribute to the House Republican fundraising arm because it backed gay candidates.

Garrett not only is anti-gay rights, he is also in the pocket of Wall Street. As chairman of the powerful Financial Services subcommittee on capital markets he has been accused of taking millions of what amounts to legal bribes from Wall Street, insurance, real estate and commercial banks.

The groups will be protesting JCP&L's continued financial support of Congressman Garrett, who represents New Jersey's 5th Congressional District, urging the company to stop donating to his campaign.

Since then, some of the campaign contributors to Congressman Garrett have stopped donating, including several Wall Street firms like Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase & Company. Earlier this year, PNC also withdrew its financial support from Congressman Garrett, after a similar protest by LGBT supporters in District 5 was organized.

"Congressman Garrett is openly and belligerently anti-gay. Incredibly, he doesn't see anything wrong with being that way," said Phyllis Salowe-Kaye, the head of NJCA. "Common decency requires that that JCP&L join the civilized society and stop continuing to enable him in spewing his hate, by financially supporting him." Salowe-Kaye added.

NJCA, a statewide grassroots organization that fights for economic and social justice, is calling on people who care about these issues to gather at at the office of JCP&L on Tuesday, June 21st at 12:00pm. Protest leaders are encouraging New Jerseyans to bring signs and send a clear message to JCPL that hate is immoral and bad not only for the people of NJ's Fifth Congressional District, but it hurts every person in New Jersey and this country.

The message is simple, said Salowe-Kaye. "JCP&L should stop all campaign contributions to Congressman Garrett immediately. "

On May 18 the same groups protested Fidelity Investment's continued support for Garrett Fidelity, the second largest mutual fund and financial services group in the world, has also given generously to Garrett's reelection campaign despite his Right-Wing agenda, including his opposition to the rights of gay people. Some Jerseyans have called for a boycott of Fidelity Investments.
