PARAMUS, N.J. — A group of women leaders from throughout the Garden State will hold a rally Tuesday to outline why their colleagues in the 5th Congressional District should vote against Rep. Scott Garrett.
A number of women leaders, including Marie Blistan, vice president of the New Jersey Education Association, will meet at the 11:30 a.m. rally in Constitution Grove Park in Paramus.
New Jersey Citizen Action, a statewide organization that fights for social and economic justice, is sponsoring the rally.
Garrett's voting record has been sharply criticized by his opponent, Democrat Josh Gottheimer.
That record includes the seven-term incumbent's voting against requiring health insurers to provide coverage for annual mammograms.
Garrett also was the only New Jersey legislator to vote against mandatory life sentences for repeat sex offenders. He also was only nine congressman to vote against the Violence Against Women Act.
Garrett also voted against an amendment that would have protected the medical privacy of women, specifically victims of rape and incest, when it came to their choice of insurance provider.
