An 'Unhappy Birthday' Party For Donald Trump

Courier-Post — May 16, 2017

Letter to the Editor

Are you part of a grassroots political group or an individual who is tired of everything that is going on in Washington these days? Then plan on attending the South Jersey Progressive Summit that will be held on June 14 from noon to 6:30 p.m. in Mays Landing, where you'll discover that you are not alone.

The event, organized by We the People of Salem and Cumberland Counties and the Cumberland County BernieCrats, will be held at Lake Lenape Park East, located at 753 Park Road ? right around the corner from Congressman Frank LoBiondo's office. It will be a day of food, fun and organizing that, not coincidentally, falls on Donald Trump's birthday.

However, the organizers agree that the event is primarily meant to serve as a forum where social concerns, including immigration reform, affordable healthcare, environmental issues and more will be discussed. The organizers hope that participants will bring some proactive ideas with them on how to productively address these issues. This is the first collaborative effort of grassroots political organizations in the South Jersey region, designed to encourage an interest in the political process.

The keynote speaker will be India Hayes Larrier of New Jersey Citizen Action, who will discuss how working together and sharing resources can help all South Jersey residents. Additional workshops will be offered on immigration issues, healthcare, the environment and international affairs. During the event, prizes will be awarded for the best poster, best postcard, best spirit wear and most group pride. Participants also will be able to make their own postcards with watercolors. At the end of the day, there will be an "unhappy birthday" celebration for Donald Trump.

Registration is required because the venue is limited to approximately 200 participants. To register, please email your name or that of your group along with contact information to SJProgressive@gmail.com or call 856-725-8249.
