NEWARK — Citizen Action has announced a nationwide Week of Action in response to the nation's economic plight. Town Halls and other community-based activities are currently being planned in 30 cities across the nation, from Newark to Phoenix.

During this Town Hall, elected officials, community leaders and the general public will speak in favor of immediate passage of a significant and broad-based economic recovery package.

The event will be held Thursday, December 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Paradise Baptist Church, 348-352 15th Avenue, Newark.

"With the nation now officially in a recession, it is imperative that Congress act swiftly to pass economic recovery legislation, which includes foreclosure mitigation, job creation and an infusion of capital to keep our economy from sliding into a deeper and sustained recession," said Phyllis Salowe Kaye, executive director for New Jersey Citizen Action.

Panelists for the Newark forum will include New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Joseph Doria. Trenton Mayor and Immediate Past President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Douglas Palmer, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens and former New Jersey Secretary of State Rev. DcForest "Buster" Soaries. Jr.
