NAACP Plans Meeting To Help With Foreclosures

The Irvington Unit ofthe NAACP will be holding its monthly meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Greater New Point Baptist Church on Paine Avenue.

Tonight's guest speaker will be Victoria Lindsay who represents the New Jersey Citizen Action grassroots organization. Kathleen Witcher, president of the Irvington NAACP, said that the ongoing homemortgage foreclosure crisis in Irvington and other parts ofthe Greater Newark area and the rest of the country will be the topic of discussion tonight in addition to an important new topic, too.

"Ms. Lindsay has offered rewarding and insightful information and helpful hints to us on home foreclosure and predatory lending," Witcher said. "Now she will be working on providing most helpful information to assist us with personal finance. If you or someone that you know has a concern about paying your debts or if you have IRS tax issues or need help paying bills, please plan to attend this very important presentation."

In addition, she said that she also wants to use the meeting tonight to alert members of the community to the fact that NJ Transit plans several changes and proposes to end several bus routes and stops for the Newark light rail. The public hearing by NJ Transit on the changes is scheduled to take place on June 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1 Penn Station Plaza in downtown Newark on the 9th floor.
