On Monday, July 30 at 12PM, New Jersey Citizen Action will release a report showing the impact on New Jersey residents of the Republican plan to extend the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2 percent of Americans, which the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on next week.

Elizabeth, N.J. — On Monday, July 30 at 12PM, New Jersey Citizen Action will release a report showing the impact on New Jersey residents of the Republican plan to extend the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2 percent of Americans, which the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on next week. The GOP plan would give disproportionately huge tax breaks to a tiny percentage of New Jersey residents, compared to President Obama's plan to give tax breaks to every American for the first $250,000 of their household income. The report also compares New Jersey's share of the costs of the tax breaks for the richest 2 percent with federal spending in New Jersey to repair highways, provide quality education and school breakfasts for low-income children, ensure clean drinking water, and deliver meals at home to frail seniors.

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote this Tuesday, July 31, on a GOP plan to extend all the Bush tax cuts, including those for the richest 2 percent, which is very similar to the Senate GOP plan that the full Senate rejected on Wednesday. The U.S. Senate also voted on Wednesday to extend the tax breaks for 98 percent of Americans while ending them on the income that the richest 2 percent earn above $250,000 a year.

The report is available in advance for journalists who commit to honoring an embargo on publishing it until 12PM on Monday, July 30 by contacting Ann Vardeman at 612-296-7894 or ann@njcitizenaction.org.
