NEW JERSEY
Groups Sue Christie Over Security Expense
Three New Jersey grassroots organizations are suing Gov. Chris Christie for using taxpayer funds to pay for his security detail while on the presidential campaign trail.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in Superior Court in Mercer County, alleges Mr. Christie, a Republican, has spent $100,000 since April 14 on travel, lodging and other expenses for his Executive Protection Unit, a state police unit, while campaigning outside New Jersey.
The suit, filed by New Jersey Working Families Alliance, New Jersey Citizen Action and Blue Wave New Jersey, as well as several state residents, seeks reimbursement for Mr. Christie's taxpayer-funded campaign expenses.
A spokesman for the governor said the administration doesn't comment on pending litigation but that "given the known partisan leanings...of these groups, it's impossible to see this as anything but a political charade."
