Slafkes Offers Expertise

Essex News Daily / News-Record, Maplewood NJ — December 8, 2016

South Orange resident Shelley B. Slafkes, who runs Levitt & Slafkes P.C. in Maplewood with her husband Bruce Levitt, was a recent participant in a financial reform summit, hosted by New Jersey Citizen Action Education Fund. The panel, "Financial Debt Traps and Other Obstacles to Financial Security," discussed medical and student debt, illegal payday and other high interest rate loans, credit reporting, abuses and the business of debt collection.

"In trying to save their homes from foreclosure, many of the people we meet with have unknowingly been the victims of costly scams," Slafkes said in a release. "This has unfortunately resulted in the loss of their homes. My goal, as a participant (on the panel), was to make people aware of common loan modification and foreclosure scams in the hope that this knowledge will help them to avoid falling into these traps."
