Struggling with preparing your tax return? New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA) offers free tax preparation services for individuals and families making less than $54,000 in 2017.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is funded in part by Partners for Health, a Montclair-based Foundation that supports a network of organizations and empowers them to make local communities better places to live. The tax preparation service, which is available in English and Spanish, helps families take advantage of the tax credits for which they may be eligible.

Those who qualify could receive up to $6,318 in tax refunds. IRS-certified staff prepare and electronically file federal and NJ State tax returns. The NJCA provides these services at the Bloomfield Public Library through April 4, 2018. Appointments must be made by calling 732-246-4772. There are no walk-ins.
