New Jersey Citizen Action Statement On New Jersey's Fiscal 2020 Budget

Insider NJ — June 30, 2019

New Jersey Citizen Action released the following statement today in response to Governor Phil Murphy signing a fiscal 2020 budget for New Jersey.

"This budget does fund a number of priorities, such as New Jersey Transit, a measure of property tax relief, and some special education costs," said Phyllis Salowe-Kaye, Executive Director of New Jersey Citizen Action. "But many pressing needs remain unaddressed. A millionaires tax would have provided even more property tax relief and helped restore some of New Jersey's fragile fiscal health. Our state pension system remains underfunded. our rainy day fund badly needs shoring up, and we can do far more to make higher education affordable for many more New Jerseyans. We look forward to working with Governor Murphy and the Legislature to continue to address both the fiscal needs of our state and the needs of working and middle class New Jerseyans."
