New Jersey Citizen Action Applauds Advancement Of NJ COVID Emergency Bond Act, Urges Full Legislative Support

Insider NJ — July 14, 2020

Trenton — New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA) today applauded the State Senate and Budget Appropriations Committee for advancing the New Jersey COVID-19 Emergency Bond Act, and urged the full Legislature to adopt the legislation into law.

"Allowing New Jersey to bond is one important step in averting the economic catastrophe in the midst of the COVID pandemic," said Liz Glynn, NJCA Director of Organizing. "Countless state residents continue to struggle to pay for rent, food, utilities and face mounting debt. Without bonding, New Jersey families will face enormous cuts to programs and services on which they currently rely, and our state will be unable to secure funding for the most pressing and as of yet unaddressed needs brought on by the pandemic. These needs include food and rental assistance for our most vulnerable residents and communities of color, affordable health care coverage for the increasing number of uninsured, and financial assistance to the hundreds of thousands of immigrants in our state who have been excluded from the federal stimulus and unemployment benefits."

"We applaud the Committee for advancing the legislation and urge our full State Legislature to adopt the bill into law as soon as possible. We also urge all our elected leaders to continue to work together to find other funding and revenue sources to support state bonding and to avert the economic crisis facing New Jersey and its residents."
