Groups Decry Bush Budget Proposal

The Times of Trenton — Thursday, April 12, 2007

A coalition of activist groups hand-delivered crumb cakes to members of Congress on Thursday, urging them to oppose President Bush's budget proposal – which they call "crummy" – and support efforts to restore heath care funding.

The coalition, called the National Emergency Campaign for America's Priorities (ECAP), included members of New Jersey Citizen Action, AFSCME, the Lutheran Office of Governmental Ministries and local constituents.

The crumb cakes were to be delivered to Reps. Mike Ferguson (R-7th District), Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11), Chris Smith (R-4), Jim Saxton (R-3) and Frank LoBiondo (R-2).

The coalition says it opposes financial cuts to programs like HeadStart, Medicaid, Medicare, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program and the State Children's Health Insurance Program.
