The New Jersey Citizen Action has opened its Newark branch of its Free Tax Preparation and Benefits Center. Debra Chapman from the IRS says in these tough economic times, low and middle income families can get back hundred, if not thousands of dollars through the Earned Income Tax Credit.

"The EITC is a refundable credit. The maximum amount a person can receive this year is 5,666 dollars. And, they can do any return for under 48,000 dollars."

Andrea Tejada is a single mother of three boys and says in the past, she would pay roughly one hundred dollars to do her taxes that she didn't have.

"It was very stressful because now I'm asking family members or other people for money to get money for myself that I've worked for."

They offer services in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
