Health Care Break For Small Business

The Record (NorthJersey.com) — Monday, August 30, 2010

THE RECORD: LETTERS

After so many years of struggling with the skyrocketing costs of health care, help is finally on the way for small businesses like mine.

We've been stuck without good options and without bargaining power, paying through the nose for questionable coverage. But now, thanks to the health care reform law, positive changes are on the way.

Ours is one of 144,000 New Jersey small businesses that will get up to 35 percent of our contribution to employees' health insurance back this year. Even though we were hit with an 18 percent rate increase a few months ago, we'll be able to absorb it without asking our employees to increase their contributions, change providers or pay higher deductibles. Plus we'll have a little left over to invest back into the company, which means creating jobs and getting our economy back on track.

We're looking forward to even better choices and more affordable rates when the new health insurance exchanges are put in place. These changes represent a huge step toward making health care more accessible and affordable for all small businesses.
