Thanks For Health Reforms

The Star-Ledger — Friday, November 26, 2010

Letters to the Editor / The Star-Ledger

Every Thanksgiving, I reflect on how thankful I am for the health and happiness of my family. This year, I owe much of that thanks to the new health care law. As a mother of a 23-year-old, uninsured daughter, I cannot overstate the peace of mind this law has given my family.

My daughter, like many recent college graduates, has been struggling to find her big break in a very tough job market. She is one of the lucky few who has had the opportunity to decide between a low-paying job that offers health care, or a higher-paying job that does not.

It is a compromise no one should have to make and under the new law, my daughter's decision is much easier because she can now be covered under my health care plan until her 26th birthday. It is hard enough for young people to start out in the working world without having the burden of choosing between their health and their career.

Because of the new health care law, I can continue to be thankful for the health and happiness of my family. And thank you to those elected leaders who made it possible.
