In conjunction with the National Day of Action, Congressman Donald Norcross held a press conference in Camden Tuesday, organized by New Jersey Citizen Action. The reason? To discuss how high drug prices are forcing many people into tough situations and reveal his four goals for dealing with the problem.

The goals are: allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices, creating more price transparency, encouraging more use of generics and providing even greater access to health insurance.

The conversation mainly revolved around how a devastating life event could render an individual vulnerable to price gouging but also addressed a common defense of high prices — the high cost of developing a new drug.

"This is a story about putting patients above profits. And it doesn't mean that in any way we will hurt innovation or hurt research," said Maura Collingsgru, health policy director at New Jersey Citizen Action.

In Washington, the House of Representatives has passed a number of bills that address high drug prices, but it's unclear whether there is enough support in the Republican-controlled Senate.
