Newark Labor Day Rally Will Support 'Fight For $15'

Hundreds of security guards, janitors, airport workers, union members and civil rights activists plan to hold a Labor Day rally in Newark.

NEWARK, NJ — Hundreds of security guards, janitors, airport workers, members of 32BJ SEIU and civil rights activists plan to hold a Labor Day rally in Newark at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 4. in support of the "Fight for $15" movement.

The rally will take place at Newark City Hall, 920 Broad St., and will be followed by a march to Washington Park.

According to a news release from 32BJ (SEIU), one of the event organizers, the rally will be held to "stand up for fast food workers" and the right to form unions, as well as employee rights in general.

Supporting groups include NAACP-Newark; New Jersey Working Families Alliance; Make the Road New Jersey; New Labor; the Anti-Poverty Network; Greater New Jersey Pride at Work; New Jersey Citizen Action and Wind of the Spirit.
