The price of home heating oil is a huge burden on many of Central Jersey's limited-income families. But help is available. The New Jersey Citizen Action Oil Group uses its bulk purchasing power to negotiate lower prices with well-established, full-service oil companies.
Along with a discount on oil, their suppliers provide additional services such as budget billing, automatic fill, service contracts and tank insurance. More information is available by calling 800-464-8465 or by visiting www.njcaoilgroup.com.
There also is the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, which is offering assistance on paying winter heating bills. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 30. LIHEAP is open to residents who are responsible for home heating or cooling costs and have gross income at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty level. More information is available by calling 800-510-3102 or by visiting www.energyassistance.nj.gov.
